Deutsche Samstagsschule Houston (“DSH,” “we,” “us,” or “our”) is committed to ensuring that its website, https://deutschesamstagsschule.org (the “Website”), is accessible to all members of our community, including individuals with disabilities. We believe that everyone — students, families, prospective families, staff, and the broader public — should be able to access information about our German-language programs and cultural activities with dignity and independence. We are actively working to increase the accessibility and usability of our Website, and in doing so aim to adhere to many of the available standards and guidelines.
Our Commitment
DSH is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization. Accessibility is part of how we serve our mission and our community. We strive to ensure that the Website provides an equivalent experience for all users, regardless of ability, and we treat digital accessibility as an ongoing effort rather than a one-time project. As our Website evolves, we work to apply accessibility best practices to new and existing content.
Conformance Standard
We aim to conform to the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1, Level AA, published by the World Wide Web Consortium (W3C). These guidelines explain how to make web content more accessible for people with a wide range of disabilities, including visual, auditory, physical, speech, cognitive, language, learning, and neurological disabilities. WCAG 2.1 Level AA is a widely recognized benchmark for web accessibility and is the standard commonly referenced under the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA).
This Website is partially conformant with WCAG 2.1 Level AA. “Partially conformant” means that some parts of the content may not yet fully meet the accessibility standard. We are working to identify and remediate any areas that do not conform, and we welcome feedback that helps us prioritize improvements.
Measures We Take to Support Accessibility
To help make the Website accessible, DSH takes measures that include, where feasible:
- Structuring pages with clear headings and a logical reading order so that content can be navigated with assistive technologies such as screen readers.
- Providing text alternatives (alt text) for meaningful images so that their purpose is available to users who cannot see them.
- Aiming for sufficient color contrast between text and background to support users with low vision or color vision deficiencies.
- Designing the Website to be responsive so that it can be viewed and operated across a range of devices and screen sizes.
- Working toward keyboard operability so that key functions can be used without a mouse, and providing a “Skip to content” link to bypass repetitive navigation.
- Reviewing new content and third-party components for accessibility as part of our ongoing website maintenance.
Known Limitations
Despite our efforts, some content on the Website may not yet be fully accessible. Known and potential limitations include:
- Certain images, documents (such as PDFs), or embedded content (such as maps, social media feeds, or slideshows) provided by third parties may lack complete text alternatives or full keyboard support.
- Some older content may not yet meet all current accessibility standards while remediation is ongoing.
- Content, features, or plug-ins hosted or controlled by external providers may not be within our direct control.
Where we become aware of a limitation, we work to provide the information or service through an accessible alternative and to remediate the underlying issue where practicable.
Third-Party Content
The Website may contain links to, or content embedded from, third-party websites and services that DSH does not own or control (for example, mapping, social media, donation, or enrollment platforms). We are not responsible for the accessibility of content on external sites. We encourage our partners and vendors to provide accessible content, and we are happy to help you obtain information from a linked service through an alternative accessible means where possible.
Feedback and Requests for Assistance
We welcome your feedback on the accessibility of our Website. If you encounter an accessibility barrier, need information in an alternative format, or require assistance completing a task on the Website (such as enrollment, donations, or registration), please contact us. We will make reasonable efforts to provide the information, service, or accommodation you need.
Please describe, if you can, the specific page or feature involved, the difficulty you experienced, and the assistive technology or browser you were using. This helps us respond effectively.
